Used to be you would have to call a warden right after taking a bear. They would have to meet you and validate the tag before taking it anywhere. Now you have 24 hours if you can't get in touch with a warden. Says so right in the regulations:

§708.12. Bear License Tags.

(d) Validation of Bear Tags:
Only department employees may validate bear license tags (This provision supersedes section 4755 of the Fish and Game Code). Bear license tags shall be countersigned by a department employee before transporting such bear except for the purpose of taking it to the nearest department employee authorized to countersign the bear license tag. If department offices are closed, the bear tag shall be validated within one (1) business day of transporting the bear from the point where taken.

Presentation of the bear skull has been ten days for a long time, but the validation is a key factor.

§367.5. Presentation of Bear Skull.

Any person who takes a bear shall present the skull (even if damaged) to a department office/officer within 10 days of taking the bear. The skull shall become property of the department. That portion of the skull not needed for scientific purposes shall be returned. The DFG didnt say anything about it the one day thing... Fr...I dont know exactly what they are saying here. From what I know/recall, (we all tagged out on bears this year), the DFG told us we had ten days to get the Bear to a Local DFG, (we went to the Lake Sonoma Hatchery) to get the tag validated and a TOOTH pulled. It used to be every odd or even tag, dunno which one, had to get the tooth pulled, but now its everyone who harvests a bear. I honestly dont understand why they would change it to being countersigned BEFORE transporting... Or within one day... And havent heard of it until now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-646025171886008830.post-62177798313007029672012-09-18T13:18:46.479-07:002012-09-18T13:18:46.479-07:00Good deal!
